Day 28 cont to day 34 adventures

Day 28 continued
Very narrow and overgrown track to meet the others at the mouth of the Jardine River to camp for the night. Very scenic camp site. The others say no crocs but I'm not so sure.
Lobster and champagne dinner. Nomads just have to make do with what's available! Excellent lobster. Lawrie and I shared one and there was too much. Cost was $24! Pretty cheap but we Found out later some locals were selling them in Seisa caravan park for $5. Not many things are so cheap in this part of the world.

Day 29
Morning mist.
Lindsay's crab pot got mangled in the night probably by a croc. This mornings fishing was a bit more wary than last nights. Off to Vrilya Point today. It's supposed to be closed but that won't stop us apparently.
Later: the log bridge at Crystal Creek was supposed to be closed but we came over anyway as have lots of others. We are camped about 10 km north of Vrilya Point after driving up the beach. Pretty camp site but a bit crowded not like last night where we the only group.
M & L caught more fish but we had roast pork camp oven yummmm.
Day 30
Took a drive south, some lovely not so crowded camping spots. We took the hard track up and lifted one wheel 3ft in the air. Stopped at a creek for a dip. Went to a lookout....stunning place. I haven't typed much about the sunsets, heaven forbid I should start to take them for granted! Every sunset photo on the western coast is like a postcard.
Day 31
Nicole drove us down the beach to a little shallow lagoon where we could see there were no crocs and we had a little play and paddle with Summer. Hermit crabs and shells make good toys.
If you don't want to hear the maggot story don't read the next bit: We had our eggs stored in the BBQ, it has a lid and they were fine till a few days ago when I found a couple had broken. They'd been there a while and were starting to dry out and the others were stuck to the carton so I decided to leave them........wrong decision. A bit smelly today so I checked them, a couple more had broken and a fly had got in through the vent in the bbq lid which wasn't quite shut. I lifted the carton and the BBQ plate was seething!!! Lawrie to the rescue! I knew he'd come in handy eventually :-)
Had to eat inside for the first time since we met up with the others cos of rain. Luckily Lawrie had made his camp oven bread earlier so it was easy to whip up a meal of cold roast sangers. A bit hot to cook inside.
Day 32
Off to find a spot to camp near Elliot/Twin/Indian Head Falls on the OTL. The NP camps are all booked which is a pity cos we had planned 3 nights there. Later: We're camped at Canal Creek, not far from the falls after a bumpy ride. Had to squeeze in with Mat &Nic over the other side of the track but the creek is lovely with little rock pools and waterfalls. Had a bit of a snorkel. I haven't mentioned that we have a campfire every night it's possible. If there is no firewood we collect some along the way or go on a gathering ride armed with chain saws and ropes to drag the big bits back to camp. We've had some awesome fires and of course thats what we cook the camp ovens on.
Day 33
Lawrie got a shock this am when he took the protective towel off the DustBuster, the biggest centipede I've ever seen latched on to his finger. Lawrie had dug a hole for communal use and put our shower tent over it and our toilet seat. We heard a yell and the shower tent shook violently....Lindsay had fallen in the hole. Spent a couple of hours at Elliot/Twin falls. The water was running a bit fast for a snorkel for me except where it widened out with a sandy bottom. Lovely place...wish we had been able to camp there. Mat tried to pack Summer in the camper but she gave the game away and mum came to the rescue. We went through Gunshot again but up the chicken track. The track we came in on looked a lot scarier and bigger this time around after all the traffic through there. Met the group from the GC 4wd club on their way north at what I think was Sailor Creek. It was at the exit and crowded with cars on the track waiting to go through so just a quick hello was all that was possible. We dragged the diffs on the rock on the exit from Cockatoo creek but everything was okay after 3 attempts. Mat had winched himself up and we towed lindsay. We are camped at a lovely spot 7 km west of the Dulahunty crossing. We nudged a few trees with the Hihouse on the way in. Talk about shake down trips. We've literally shaken a few nuts bolts and screws out of bits of the Hihouse. Luckily we've been able to find them all:-). Overall it's taken the beating very well and we've done tracks and crossings with it that some wouldn't do.
Weipa tomorrow for some washing, Internet and real showers and toilets and supplies!!
Day 34
Crossed Palm Creek again. Lawrie had to winch out and then tow the others. Pretty steep step ups. Washing is done and beer is cold:-)
