Day 48 to day 50 Adventures

Day 48 cont
Burketown...thought we'd go to the pub for lunch but it had burned down earlier this year. Went to the Information Centre.....it was closed... And the maintenance crew told us "he" would be gone for a couple of weeks. They opened the door for us and helped us choose brochures. Driving round town we saw some trees and fences absolutely covered in white cockatoos...they looked like flowers on the tree. Not much else of interest in Burketown although there must be fishing there so we went on to the Gregory Downs Pub for lunch...too late..packet of chips and a pie washed down with a cold beer had to do. Talked to to one of the employees and she told us about nearby free camping that the local canoeists use. We are there now and it's another perfect site. On the river, nobody else here. We're told there are red claw in the river but we don't have pots. Tomorrow we are booked in to Adel's Grove near Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) NP.
Day 49
Stoked up the fire this morning, it was very cold. As usual it warmed up during the day.
Wallabies coming down to the creek to drink in the morning. Green budgerigars down the track. The most kangaroos yet including a couple of big reds. Riversleigh....wow!.....the fossils were interesting but not as good as the one I'm travelling with:-). Pop humour..he told me to type that. A couple of concrete causeways while not too deep made the cruiser wheel spin they were so slippery. Of course Lawrie made them spin more than they needed to. Adels Grove is lovely but a bit expensive. The NP is all booked up for over a week ahead and we need to do washing. Adels Grove do tours to Riversleigh for $70 per person. We'd already seen it for free!
Day 50
Off to Lawn Hill gorge to paddle a canoe.....was beautiful and good fun telling Pop to paddle pop. On the way out the engine light came on again and we went in to limp mode. Lawrie's tried to fix it but the fix was short lived so no choice but to limp the 330km to Mount Isa Toyota service where I am sitting in the car park waiting to see if we can get the computer diagnostic thing done tomorrow. We only just made it before they closed. I have renamed the cruiser "princess", suits it better. Mount Isa wasn't high on my list of places to see and it's what you would expect of a mining town. Let's hope we can get in to a caravan park tonight. Later: maybe they can look at the car tomorrow afternoon.....we are in a caravan park....very crowded but at least we have a spot. We're going to shout ourselves dinner at a great looking pub down the road...only had car snacks for lunch. The pub was a club and had the best steak I've had for ages....yum!
