Day 44 and 45 Adventures

Day 44
Undara lava tube tour: Fantastic tour, really interesting, I didn't know there were so many volcanoes in the area. The lava tubes here are world famous apparently, beautiful formations. I'd never heard of them before but I'm glad we came. Had lunch in the pub at Georgetown...very impressed with the town and facilities for nomads. Not much in the way of groceries but it's our fault for not stocking up when we could or planning ahead. Now camped at a free camp on the Gilbert river, only 8 set ups in quite a big area with a few trees. Can't see the river from here but quite good for a freebie.

Day 45
A bit of early morning excitement when 2 police cars pulled up at the end of the long (100m+ long) bridge over the river. Turned out a wide load was crossing the one lane bridge....the whole campsite turned out to have a look....not much entertainment out here! The load was a house, more than twice the width of the bridge. Quite impressive to watch!
All ready to go and that pesky engine light is on again. Lawrie thinks it could be water in the fuel so is going to try and change the fuel filter. The neighbours said we blew lots of black smoke when the engine started up and there's an odd noise. Hope we don't have to go back to Mareeba or Cairns again! Clever Lawrie has changed the fuel filter and although the engine light stayed on for a while, after driving to Croyden and starting up again the cruiser is fine. Croyden is another lovely town with lots of mining (mainly gold) history. We are at the local lake having lunch. Hardly anybody else here and Lawrie has just found showers in the amenities block, no camping here unfortunately but that shower will be most welcome. Now we are free camping about halfway between Normanton and Karumba. Not a bad spot by Walker Creek.
